Implementation
Participation in KVK
Made Easy
These are the critical
steps that need to be completed to successfully participate in Kids
Voting Kansas. The steps in creating a program are as follows:
1) Organize a community
task force for your particular community.
2) Have the program approved by the local school board.
3) Recruit volunteers.
4) Fundraise for election supplies.
5) Distribute the Kids Voting activities to the schools in late spring
or early fall.
6) Enlist help from the county clerks office to develop a Kids Voting
ballot and identify polling places.
7) Schedule a teacher inservice (conducted by the executive director
of KVK free of charge) if wanted.
8) Order election supplies from state office.
9) Organize volunteers to staff the KVK polling sites.
10) Create a tabulation plan.
11) On Election Day, enjoy watching the young people flock to the polls!!
12) Call in final vote tallies to the state office.
* Community task force is made up
of four or five key leaders in the community that would be responsible
for fundraising, schools and curriculum (principal or teacher), volunteers
(Rotary Club or any other civic organization member), and Election Day
logistics (county clerk orrepresentative from that office or the newspaper).
* Approval from School Board, while
this sounds scary the program has yet to have a problem obtaining approval.
* This may seem like a great deal of work, but it’s a team effort.
The Executive Director of KVK can attend your first planning meeting
and provide any, and all, support that is needed to implement a successful
Kids Voting Kansas Program.
Kids Voting Kansas
would be proud and honored to have you join us, in protecting our freedom
to vote, one of our most important rights and responsibilities as United
States citizens.
